Galini Village in Naxos

Galini is 5 kilometres away north of Naxos Town and it is a traditional and quiet and peaceful village, in the verdant Galini Valley. The area is surrounded by orchards and farms and the beach (Amitis beach) is only 1500 metres away from the village. In the village are a few taverns and there is a mini market. Ypsilotera Monastery - Tower, Naxos GreeceYpsilotera Virgin is a tower monastery and it is said to be the strongest fortress on the island.
It was both a base for operations and a hide place of the region.
Inside the tower there is a post-Byzantine church with an excellent temple (third photo on the left).
The tower of Ypsilotera Virgin was founded in in 1600 by Iakovos Kokkos.
Please note, Ypsilotera Virgin is currently closed to public access.

Eggares is a traditional agricultural village, not very “touched” by tourism. It is situated about 7 Km north of Naxos Town in a lovely and very fertile valley. The nearest beach is Amitis (1 kilometre away). In the village are few taverns and there is a mini market. Naxos Filoxenia (www.naxos-filoxeia.com) in Galini is a traditional accommodation with view of the vertile valley and the sea.

The Old Olive Press Museum (www.olivemuseum.com) in Eggares is worth a visit.

Agia Anna is one of the most beautiful areas in Naxos Island, reputed for its fine sandy beach. It makes an excellent resort and it is ideal for visitors who love beach holidays.

It is a lovely resort that attracts plenty of visitors every year. Once a fishing village, today a popular resort with golden sand and plenty of beach restauranrs, taverns and clubs.

There is a small port in Agia Anna where organized cruises depart to remote beaches. Horse riding, car and motoribike rentals, travel agencies and cash point machines are also available in Agia Anna.

Naxos Town on the west coast is the island’s port and capital and it is the arrival point for all but air visitors. The town officially called Naxos, most books and residents call it Hora. The town feels like four towns joined together: the port with the waterfront, the Old Town with the Venetian Castle (Kastro), Saint George with the so named beach.
